Avenue Bread Located in Bellingham and Fairhaven, Avenue Bread engages in responsible and environmentally friendly business while serving slice after slice of the area’s finest breads, sandwiches, and pastries. Chuckanut Bay Foodsis a family-owned and locally-operated boutique bakery in Ferndale, Wa. Draper Valley Farms With its beginnings in Bellingham, Draper Valley Farms, now rooted in Mount Vernon, WA, provides Engrained Café with humanely raised chicken from local, family-run farms. Chickens are never given antibiotics or hormones, and are fed a 100% vegetarian diet. Chickens are grown in spacious housing with plenty of natural sunlight and fresh air and have sufficient room to move about the entire house. Edaleen Dairy Located just 25 miles away in Lynden, Ed and Aileen Brandsma began milking 80 cows in 1970, and are now one of the biggest dairies statewide with a herd of 2,700 cows. Edaleen provides all of the dairy served on campus, including milk used at retail locations and soft serve in the dining commons. Ostrom’s Mushrooms opened in 1928 in Olympia, Washington. Ostrom's takes pride in the quality of their mushrooms. They want their customers to feel confident that when they purchase any of their fine products they receive a safe, fresh, delicious product. From compost to shipping the finished product, Ostrom's utilizes procedures to comply with established Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Agricultural Practices. Ostrom’s uses wheat straw, Canola Meal and Sugar Beet lime to grow their mushrooms. All of these components are agricultural bi-products that would end up dumped or burned, reducing waste and making their business more sustainable.
