Sustainability on Campus
University Dining Services has taken the lead in the Student Union Building and around campus, helping Boise State to reduce the carbon footprint on the environment.
UDS initiatives are as follows: - We're committed to protecting and improving the environment by weaving an essential Green Thread through every aspect of our business: * Foods * Buildings * Resources * Products * Waste * Transportation - Trayless dining in the main eatery, Boise River Cafe, with the goal to reduce waste by 25% - Event recycling for cans and bottles - Biodegradable containers and service-ware for retail dining and catering - Food pulping - Farm-to-table programs - Local, sustainable food programs (15% of our food is sourced locally, with the goal to increase by 5% annually) - Biodiesel programs - Divert 100% of our fryer oil waste - Refigerators in the main dining commons and catering area have air cooled refrigerators, saving thousands of gallons of water annually - Working to partner with the Idaho Botanical Gardens to compost food waste - Utilizing green cleaning solutions in our dining facilities - To help sustain the body, UDS offers nutritional information for all venues on campus - Purchase only paper products with recycled content - UDS hosts Recyclemania for Boise State, of which we placed 10th nationally in the program in 2009 - Moving towards digital menu boards to reduce paper menus - Create a favorable working environment for our employees, offering an employee program called THRIVE (T-houghtful, H-eartfelt, R-esults driven, I-nnovative, V-alued and trusted, and E-ngaged)
