Lauren Hickman, RD/LD, is a Registered Dietitian, licensed in the State of Texas. She comes to us from Oklahoma, where she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nutritional Sciences at the University of Oklahoma (OU). Lauren completed the Coordinated Program in dietetics at the OU Health Sciences Center and completed her dietetic practicum in many different settings, such as, the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center, Weight Wise Bariatric Center, Draelos Metabolic Center, Edmond Public Schools, the Cancer Center, and more.
Lauren has experience in nutrition education and counseling for all ages. Upon graduating, Lauren worked for Aging Services, Inc., where she delivered nutrition education and advice to senior citizens in the Oklahoma City metro. She then moved on to the Oklahoma State Department of Health, working in WIC Services. There she was able to assist local WIC agencies in providing nutritious foods and services to women, infants, and children at nutritional risk. She also completed a Breastfeeding Educators Course in April 2013.
Lauren has a Certificate of Training in Food Allergy Management. She is a current member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Lauren also serves as the Historian/Social Chair for the Dallas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Lauren counsels in a variety of areas including weight management, food allergies, food intolerances, chronic disease prevention and management, and etc. Lauren's hobbies include reading, teaching Catechism class, ballroom dancing, and playing with her cat, Caesar. In her job, she most enjoys teaching others to eat mindfully and to thoroughly enjoy food. Her philosophy is to “eat well to live well” as she strives to improve lives through good nutrition within the SMU community.
