Resident Meal Plans

Resident students are required to have a meal plan. There are two Resident Meal Plan choices for fall 2014:

  • 19 meals per week in the Refectory + $75 Salem Bucks to use in The Cafe & C-Store*
  • 15 meals per week in the Refectory + $200 Salem Bucks to use in The Cafe & C-Store*

*You can choose to use 3 of your meals per week in the Cafe as a Meal Exchange. Meal Exchange is a pre-set meal combo for a meal swipe.

Resident meal plans include $75 or $200 Salem Bucks. Additional deposits are called Spirit Dollars. Salem Bucks expire at the end of spring semester. Spirit Dollars carry over as long as you are a student at Salem College.

Supplement your weekly meals with additional Spirit Dollars. They can be used at The Cafe & C-Store.

PLEASE NOTE: The NC legislature has made a series of tax law changes. Among these was a change described below
by the NC Department of Revenue:

Session Law 2013-316 signed into law August 23, 2013 by the Governor, repeals the exemption in G.S. 105-164.13(27) effective January 1, 2014.  General Statute 105-164.13(27) provides an exemption for the sale at retail and the use, storage, or consumption in this State of "[p]repared food and food served to students in dining rooms regularly operated by State or private educational institutions or student organizations thereof."  As a result of the repeal of the exemption, sales of prepared food and food served to students in dining rooms by institutions of higher education are subject to tax effective January 1, 2014.

Due to this change, Salem Bucks will now be taxed at the register.
