Ravenscroft Dining Sustainability Initiatives

  • Recycling bins are available in the Lower School Dining Hall and Upper School Snack Bar.
  • Recycling program for back of the house includes number ten cans, cardboard, glass and plastic containers.
  • Composting program in place with Brooks Contractors.
  • Use only green Apex chemicals from EcoLab. 
  • Use only compostable pizza boxes and coffee cups.
  • Switched from disposable dishes and plates made of foam or paper to non-disposables to reduce waste. 
  • All vegetable fryer oil is recycled into biodiesel fuel.
  • Program in place to reduce napkin consumption.  We use a one-at-a-time napkin dispensing system that ensures customers use up to 25% fewer napkins.
  • Disposable napkins are made from 100% recycled fiber and a bleach-free process and 90% post-consumer content.  The napkins meet EPA guidelines for post-consumer content, are EcoLogic certified and Green Seal certified.
  • Used Frito Lay & Capri Sun packaging is sent in and recycled into new products.
  • Promote Earth Week with activities such as "Weigh the Waste" and "Waste Free Lunch Day."
  • Refillable mug program available.
