FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:  Residential Meal Plans (Fall 2013 & Spring 2014)

What meal plan can I purchase?
This depends on where you live and your class year.

Students living in an on-campus residence hall...
(Vann, Stringfield, Faircloth, Brewer, Barefoot, Heilman, Poteat) are automatically enrolled in the Unlimited meals per week plan.
First-year (freshman) students living in one of the above halls are required to participate in the Unlimited meals per week plan.
Sophomores living in one of the above halls may change to the 15 meals per week plan (see below for more information).
Juniors and Seniors living in one of the above halls may change to the 15 or 12 meals per week plans (see below for more information).
How does the Unlimited meal plan work?
Not just for big eaters! An Unlimited meal plan is like having mom's kitchen right outside your residence hall. Grab what you want, when you want it or just go to socialize. The Unlimited meal plan gives you unlimited access to Belk Dining Hall. This includes meals, snacks or to visit with friends. Just swipe your CamCard at the door to identify that you are an Unlimited meal plan member.
When does the meal plan begin?
Meal Plans start on the first day the residence halls are open for each semester (Saturday, August 17th for Fall 2013 semester; Thursday, January 2, 2014 for the spring 2014 semester).
When does the meal plan end?
Unused Meredith College Meal Plan balances expire on May 3, 2014 and Dining Dollar balances expire on May 1, 2014.
Is Belk Dining Hall open over breaks?
Belk Dining Hall is closed for the following breaks: fall break, Thanksgiving weekend, Winter break, spring break and Easter weekend.
When do I receive my meals?
The meal week runs from Monday morning to Sunday night. Unused meals on the 15 and 12 meals per week plans do not carry forward to the next week. Students on the Unlimited meal plan will always have meals available (from residence hall opening through the last day of exams).
If I don’t use my meals each week, will they roll over?
Unused meals on the 15 and 12 meals per week plans will expire at the end of each week (Sunday night) and a new allotment will be
    received on Monday morning.
Will my unused Dining Dollars roll over to the next semester?
Unused Dining Dollars expire at the end of each semester (Thursday, May 1, 2014 for spring 2014).
Can I change my meal plan?
All residents (with the exception of apartment residents) are automatically enrolled in the Unlimited meals per week plan. First year students (freshman) living on campus are required to participate in the Unlimited meals per week plan. Sophomores may change to the 15 meals per week plan. Juniors and seniors may change to the 15 or 12 meals per week plans.
When and how can I change my meal plan?
Students eligible (see above question & answer) to change to the 15 or 12 meals per week plan may do so through the end of the tenth day of classes (Friday, January 17, 2014 for the Spring 2014 semester).
Is there an additional charge for changing plans?
No, the cost per plan is the same for the Unlimited meals per week plan as it is for the 15 and 12 meals per week plans. The difference in meals is made up for in the amount Dining Dollars included with each plan. (The Unlimited meals per week plan includes $50 Dining Dollars, the 15 meals per week plan includes $200 Dining Dollars and the 12 meals per week plans includes $300 Dining Dollars).
Why must I use my CamCard to eat?
Your CamCard identifies you as a meal plan participant. Without your CamCard, we are unable to access your account to verify your membership.
      Who can use my CamCard?
For your protection, meal plans are non-transferable. The only person authorized to use your CamCard is you.
What if I lose my CamCard?
Not to worry. Just report your lost card to the Campus Police Office at (919) 760-8888. Replacement cards may be obtained during regular hours for a nominal fee of $5.00.
Can I treat a friend by using “two” meals during a meal period?
If you are on the Unlimited, 15 or 12 meals per week plan, you are the only person allowed to use your meals and may only use one meal per meal period. If you would like to treat a friend, you may pay for their meal with Dining Dollars.
What do I do if my Dining Dollars run low?
Simple! Just add to your account with cash, check, money order, credit card or charge to your student account. When you want to replenish your Dining Dollars, just go to the Accounting Office in Johnson Hall.
