Fall 2009/Spring 2010 Rules and Conditions

  • Meal memberships are a one-year program – you are signing up for Fall and Spring.
  • To keep discounts high, meals are not transferable and may not be shared with others.
  • All meals expire at the end of each semester.
  • Weekly meals (14, 10, 7) do not roll over from week to week – only the Block meals do.
  • Unused Flex Bucks roll over from Fall to Spring with the purchase of a Spring membership.

1. A $29 administrative fee will be charged for any returned checks.

2. You will not receive an invoice for any balances owed, including for the Spring semester. All meal memberships are a two-semester obligation; unless purchased for the Spring or Summer semester (does not apply to Garnet Bucks accounts).  If you are purchasing for the Fall semester, you are obligated to sign-up again for the Spring. You must sign up again for Spring with a valid payment method. We will not automatically deduct your Spring meal membership balance from the credit card you used for Fall unless you are participating in the EZ Pay method. A payment for Fall Meal Membership is due at the time of sign up, and Spring Meal Membership payment is due November 13, 2009. Late payments will be subject to a $25 late fee. Meal memberships will be put on hold if payments are not made by due dates. Any unpaid balances will subject meal membership participants to University Academic Hold status, which may prevent them from registering, receiving transcripts and/or graduating.

3. Mandatory Meal Memberships are required for students living in Bryan, Broward, Cawthon, Landis, Gilchrist, Jennie Murphree, or Reynolds Halls. In order to reside in one of these residence halls, a student must purchase a meal membership. Students living in these halls must sign up for the meal membership before they move into their residence hall (August 19, 2009). Garnet Bucks do not qualify as a meal membership and do not satisfy this policy. Students who are relocated into a residence hall with a mandatory meal membership after the start of the school year have one week to select their meal membership. In this circumstance, meal memberships will be available at a prorated price.

4. Financial Aid Deferment is available only to students receiving financial aid through the University in the form off scholarships, loans, or grants. Eligibility for Financial Aid Deferment is determined by the student receiving $4500 in aid per semester. A down payment of $350 is due upon signing up ($300 deposit towards meal membership and $50 processing fee for the entire contract year). You will be required to provide any amount of money that is not covered by your financial aid. A $300 deposit is due for the Spring 2009 semester no later than November 13, 2009. Because the meal membership is a one-year program (Fall 09 and Spring 10), if you have not contacted Seminole Dining prior to the Spring 09 semester with any changes, you will be resubmitted to the FSU Financial Services Department (Financial Aid Deferment) as having the same meal membership as the previous Fall Meal Membership automatically.

When applying for Financial Aid Deferment online, you must deposit $350 total and agree that you are receiving at least $4500 in financial aid per semester through FSU. By doing so, you have authorized Seminole Dining to submit your meal membership information Florida State University’s Financial Services Department. After completing the online order form, you must fax or mail your Financial Aid Awards Letter to Seminole Dining/Meal Membership Office – PO Box 67011,945 W. Jefferson, Tallahassee, FL 32313. Fax # - (850) 644-3069 / (850) 644-7547

5. EZ Pay: An initial payment of $350 is due at signup ($300 first payment and $50 processing fee for duration of program year). You will not receive an invoice for any payments owed. Your monthly payment will be automatically deducted from your credit card on the last Monday of each month (August 31, September 28, October 26, November 30, December 28, January 25, February 22, and March 29). If payment is for any reason declined the meal membership will be temporarily deactivated until payment is received.

6. Students must submit payment (either in full, $350 EZ Pay or $350 Financial Aid Deferment) at sign up. Recommended deadline for traditional meal plan sign up is August 1 (you may sign up at any time for a Garnet Bucks Account). You must submit all payments to Seminole Dining Services and may sign up for your meal plan by fax (820-644-7547/850-644-3069), mail (Seminole Dining, PO Box 67011, Tallahassee, FL 32313) or online at www.seminoledining.com

Meal Membership Provisions

1. You FSUCard, which serves as your meal card, is required for all transactions – no exceptions.

2. All meal memberships (excluding Garnet Bucks Accounts) starting in the Fall are two semester obligations; unless purchased for the Spring or Summer semester. If you are purchasing for the Fall semester, you are obligated to sign-up again for the Spring.

3. Meal memberships are not transferable to others – this includes block plans and the All Access Plan. Plan participants may bring in guests with the Flex Bucks portion of their account only. If meals are used by anyone other than the meal membership purchaser, the FSU card will be taken and returned after a meeting with the Food Service Director.

4. Flex Bucks are nonrefundable. Any unused Flex Bucks roll from Summer to Fall to Spring with the purchase of a meal membership. All Flex Bucks expire at the end of the Spring semester. If you do not purchase a meal membership for the next semester, Flex Bucks will expire at the end of the semester in which you purchased the Meal Membership/Flex Bucks.

5. Flex Bucks may be used to tip servers at all full service locations, however excessive tipping is not allowed. The maximum amount allowed is 25% of the total check value plus $10.00. If you wish to tip more than the maximum amount you may do so in the form of cash, credit or debit.

6. The meal week runs from Wednesday morning to Tuesday late night. Unused meals on the Weekly 14, Any 10, or Any 7 Plans do not carry forward to the next week.

7. Participants are not limited to the number of meals they can eat in one day, as long as it is within their limit of total meals for the week/semester. Check facilities for posted meal period times.

8. Meals on the 150 Block or 125 Block must be used within one semester. Unused meals do not carry forward to the next semester, and meals may not be used for guests.

9. Carry out is available and provided to you as a courtesy. You must tell the cashier you want your meal carried out at the time you enter the facility, and leave your ID card with the cashier. You may not take a seat in the facility once you have your carry out box. No double portions on any one item. The carry out box must be fully closed when you leave (no filling up lid and base separately). If you desire unlimited seconds, you must dine in. A maximum of two carry out boxes are allowed at a time, regardless of meal membership, and the purchase of two meals is required to carry out two boxes. If you wish to dine in and carry out, you must purchase two meals. You cannot purchase a dine in and carry out meal at the same time. When you have completed your dine in meal, you may purchase a carry out box separately. Once you have your carry out box, you may not sit down in the restaurant again. Failure to follow these rules will result in the forfeiture of your carry out privileges.

10. If your FSUCard is lost or stolen, you must immediately report it to the Seminole Dining/Meal Membership Office (850-644-3663), and the FSUCard office, located in Parking Garage #1.  Seminole Dining is not responsible for any meals missed due to lost or stolen FSUCards.

11. Seminole Dining reserves the right to alter services or hours of operation. Notice will be given with modified schedules posted in all dining locations and online. Dining halls may be open prior to residence hall opening dates – entry during those times is by cash or credit only. Fall 2009 Meal Memberships begin August 19, 2009 with Dinner and end December 12, 2009 with Lunch. Spring 2010 Meal Memberships begin January 4, 2010 with Lunch and end May 1, 2010 with Lunch. Dining locations will be closed in the Fall for Thanksgiving (closing November 25 after Lunch and reopening November 28 for Dinner), Winter Break (closing December 12 after Lunch and reopening January 4 for Dinner) and Spring Break (closing March 6 with Lunch and reopening March 14 with Dinner).

Garnet Bucks Accounts

1. A Garnet Bucks Account may be added to any account, and will carry over until graduation, transfer or withdrawal from the University. Refunds are only granted upon graduation, leaving the University or if you cease to be employed by the University. The participant is expected to notify Seminole Dining services for refunds in writing. If participant fails to notify Seminole Dining for a refund, and remains inactive as a student, faculty or staff member for one year, the remaining money is forfeited.

2. Garnet Bucks may be used at any Seminole Dining location (except some remote carts without card access).

3. There are no restrictions on adding money, and no minimums to maintain. Funds may be added online at www.seminoledining.com

4. Garnet Bucks may be used to tip servers at full service locations, however excessive tipping is not allowed. The maximum amount allowed is 25% of the total check value plus $10.00. If you wish to tip more than the maximum amount, you may do so in the form of cash, credit or debit.

Changes/Cancellation

1. Meal Membership participants may upgrade a membership at any time in the semester. Any additional money owed is due at the time of the upgrade. Meal membership participants may downgrade their membership for any reason prior to September 4, 2009 for Fall and January 15, 2010 for Spring. After these dates, no changes will be accepted. If you choose to downgrade from one membership to another, the difference between the two plans will be prorated and put in a Flex Bucks Account. If you change your mind about participating in a membership, you may convert the prorated balance to a Flex Bucks Account, but only before the grace period deadline for that specific semester.

A refund for Flex Bucks or Garnet Bucks is only granted to those who leave school, graduate or cease to be employed by the University. You may opt for a different meal membership for Spring than you chose in Fall. The same policies for downgrades apply.

2. Cancellation Policy

All requests for meal membership cancellation as outlined below must be accompanied by documentation from FSU that you have withdrawn from the University. Refunds will be prorated for all meal memberships, including Block Plan Accounts, from the date Seminole Dining Services receives said documentation. All cancellations, regardless of reason, are subject to a $50 cancellation fee (if you submit a medical reason that is approved prior to the start of the meal membership, the cancellation fee will be waived). All cancellations must go to the Seminole Dining Committee for review and decision.

a) If you are officially withdrawn from the University and you notify us prior to the start of the academic semester, you meal membership contract will be cancelled and you are entitled to a full refund

b) If you officially withdraw from the University after the start of the academic semester or inform us of your withdrawal after the academic semester has begun, you are entitled to a prorated refund

c) Students with a mandatory meal membership requirement are not permitted to cancel their membership; however, the student is able to downgrade his/her plan during the grace periods in accordance with the change policy. A Garnet Bucks or Flex Bucks Account does not satisfy the meal membership requirement; therefore, the student cannot transfer the balance to a Garnet Bucks or Flex Bucks Account while under the mandatory meal membership requirement. Sorority or fraternity required meal memberships do not meet the requirement either; to live in a mandatory hall the student must participate in a Seminole Dining Meal Membership.
