Fraternity & Sorority Meal Plan
Students that are going to participate in an on-campus organization such as a fraternity or sorority are required to participate in the Freshman Year Experience program. Since some fraternities and sororities also have their own mandatory meal plans, the University and Bama Dining are allowing new members of these organizations the option of choosing an alternative meal plan. These students will automatically have their meal plan reduced to 55 meals per semester with the option of choosing other alternative meal plans.
What are the Alternative Meal Plan Options?
Option 1 - Students that would like to have 55 meals per semester need to do... nothing! Freshman students who join a Greek organization that requires a meal plan purchase within the organization, will automatically have their meal plan reduced to the Greek 55 ($466) meal plan when UA Dining Services receives pledge lists from the Greek Affairs office.
Sorority reductions occur on the first day of classes and Fraternity downgrades occur before the first Monday in October. Greek Organizations are responsible for sending pledge list to UA Dining Services within this time frame. Students are responsible for confirming the meal plan downgrade on their student account.
Option 2 - Students that would like more than 55 meals per semester may change their meal plan to one of the following: Bronze (90 meals per semester), Silver (160 meals per semester), or All Access (unlimited all-you-care-to-eat meals per semester).
Option 3 - Students that would like to have no requirement to dine in any UA dining halls may choose to only pay the Community Dining Charge of $197 plus any meals already consumed.
If the student chooses to have no meal plan, a payment of $197 per semester is required plus any meals the student has already consumed. All requests for downgrades to the Greek 55 or no-meal plan ($197) must be received by the first day of class for fall sorority pledges, and the first Monday in October for the fall fraternity pledges.
** Students are responsible for confirming the meal plan opt-out on their student account. **
