Keeping Green in the Green Mountain State

Amidst the pastures, mountaintops, and fresh air, ARAMARK provides the Dining Services at four of the Vermont State Colleges--Johnson State, Lyndon State, Castleton State, and Vermont Technical College. We’re particularly proud of our presence in the Green Mountain State with its wealth of local farms, dairies, and food suppliers who help us to source the ingredients for the thousands of meals we server each day. We consider it our duty to do so in the most responsible way possible, in order to minimize our environmental footprint, and to help preserve the beautiful state of Vermont.

We’re committed to protecting and preserving the environment, reducing waste, re-cycling, and conscientious procurement. We contribute to the local economy not only by purchasing from neighboring farms and companies, but also as an employer. ARAMARK provides jobs to over 150 Vermont residents.

In recent years, we’ve made tremendous strides in our dining services sustainability initiatives. In addition to ‘buying local' we’ve also added many natural, wholesome and fairly traded goods to our portfolio of offerings. We’re purchasing compostable paper products made from recycled material. We’re composting our food waste and converting our used fryer oil to biodiesel. We’re implementing energy and water conservation programs at all of our locations. And as of this spring, all four of our Vermont State College residential dining rooms have gone ”trayless,” resulting in a tremendous reduction in food, water, detergent, and energy waste.

This is only the beginning. As we move forward, we expect to increase our local purchases. We’ll be adding more organic and wholesome items to our menus. We’ll be purchasing energy-saving equipment, and implementing strategic plans to reduce our overall environmental impact-- all green measures to help sustain the beautiful state in which we live and work.
