Meal Plans - Frequently Asked Questions


Q. Where may I use my meals?
A. You can use your meals at the Hickey Dining Hall and from 5:00pm-7:00pm in the Francis Cafe.


Q. Can I take food out of the Dining Hall?
A. NO! We do not allow any food or beverage to leave the Dining Hall unless given consent by a Manager. This also includes any smallwares such as forks, knives, bowls etc...


Q. Can I treat a friend or collegue to a meal on my plan?
A. It depends on where you eat.  Only you can use your all-you-care-to-eat meals.  But you can treat a friend or colleague to a meal at the Hickey with a guest meal pass or anywhere on campus using your Flex Dollars 


Q. If I am a vegetarian, where should I eat on campus?
A. The Campus Dining Services cares about you and your lifestyle. We serve vegetarian items in all of our food service locations. However, the Hickey Dining Hall offers three to four hot vegetarian entree items on the main menu as well as the salad bar station, pasta bar and soup stations. This would be your best option for the greatest selection.


Q. Where can I use my Bona I.D. Card?
A. You can use your Bona I.D. Card in any of our food service facilities. Each facility only accepts certain forms of payment. The Hickey Dining Hall will accept meal plans, Bona Bucks, Bonus Dollars, Advantage Dollars, guest meals and Cash. The R.C. Cafe, Francis, Heavenly Grounds and the Rathskeller will accept Bona Bucks, Advantage Dollars, Bonus Dollars, Debit Dollars and Cash. The Clubhouse accepts all of the above except for meal plans/guest meals.


Q. How long do I have to use my Bona I.D. Card?
A. Unless you lose your card, your Bona I.D. Card is yours to use during your academic duration as a St. Bonaventure student.


Q.When can I start using my Bona I.D. Card?
A. You may start to use your Bona I.D. Card for food service as soon as the semester starts. Usually this is the Saturday before the first day of classes.


Q. How long do I have to use my meals?
A. Regardless of what meal plan a student is on, all unused meals will be forfeited at the end of each semester. However, any unused bonus or advantage dollars for the fall semester will carry over to the spring semester provided the student carries a meal plan of equal or greater value for the spring semester. At the end of each academic year, all unused meals, advantage and bonus dollars will be forfeited. Absolutely no reimbursments will be given.


Q. May I change my meal plan?
A. Yes.  For the first 10 days of each semester you can change your plan simply by going to the Bona ID Office in the Reilly Center and complete a Change Form.


Q. Do I have to buy a meal plan?
A. Yes. A student living in the residence hall system is obligated to participate in one of the University meal plans. All freshmen living in a residence hall are required to purchase the deluxe meal plan for the academic year. The only exceptions are the following: Townhouses, Garden Apartments and graduate students.


Q. May I use my Bona I.D. Card for Catering Services?
A. NO.


Q. Where do I go to purchase my meal plan?
A. You can purchase a meal plan through the Office of Housing during scheduled business hours.


Q. May I purchase my meal plan on-line?
A. Currently, you can only add additional Bona Bucks online. 


Q. What do I do if I lose my Bona I.D. Card?
A. If you happen to lose your Bona I.D. Card, all you need to do is contact the Bona I.D. Office and make an appointment to get a new card. The cost for a new card is $25.00.


Q. Can I get a refund for my meal plan?
A. No. We are sorry, but there are no reimbursements for any meal plans.


Q. How do I add money to my Bona I.D. Card?
A. If you wish to add money to your Bona I.D. Card, contact the Bona I.D. Office at 375-2675, and they will be happy to help you add money to your card. You can also add Bona Bucks online at  the following web address:

Q. What is the difference between Bona Bucks, Bonus Dollars, Debit Dollars and Advantage Dollars?
A. Bonus Dollars are "free" money that comes with your meal plan. It can be used for food only. Bona Bucks is money that you put on your card to be used towards food or books. Debit Dollars if money that you or your family adds to your Bona ID Card. The Debit Dollars can only be used for food. Advantage dollars are offered to students who have off-campus style living. Anyone living in the Townhouses, Garden Apartments or have off-campus housing can use Advantage Dollars for food in any of our dining facilities.
