Eco Clamshell

 Eco Clam Shell Program
How To Guide

This is yet another program to incentivize students to reduce their waste. Students can purchase the Clamshell for $5 declining, URos, cash or credit, in any one of the participating dining halls. The purchase is good until the student graduates or loses the clamshell. Operating in Danforth, Douglass, and The Commons, students can get their food in the clamshell, which reduces their use of disposable containers

Eco Clam Shell Program

Why Choose a Clamshell?

Clamshells are designed to cut down on our use of disposable-ware. Say for example you purchase a clamshell and use if for two meals a day for 5 days a week, thats ten uses a week, 44 saved plates a month, 154 plates a semester, times 8 semesters thats 1,232 plates! And thats just per person, imagine if half the undergraduate population purchased and used a clamshell, that would be 2,772,000 plates over 4 years!

Written Policy:  You may use the Clamshell in Danforth, Douglass, The Commons, Eastman Dining Center, or The Orchestra Pit.

Y
ou may purchase a Clamshell in any one of the participating dining halls (Danforth, Douglass, Eastman Dining Center, The Orchestra Pit or The Commons) for $5.00 -Cash, Credit, URos, or Declining.

Using a Clamshell in Danforth or Douglass does not mean you get two meals for the price of one! No Double Dining!

You may return a dirty Clamshell for a clean Clamshell or a keychain. The keychain serves as a proof of purchase, so that later you may return the keychain for a clean Clamshell when you are ready.

Once you pick up a clean Clamshell you MUST use it at the dining location from which you have received it. If the Clamshell is not used immediately and taken out of the dining hall, please exchange it for a clean one when you wish to use it.

Please return your dirty Clamshell to the labeled return bins located by the cash registers’ of Danforth, Douglass, The Commons or The Eastman Dining Center. At the time of return you may either grab a clean Clamshell - for use immediately- or a keychain -which you can use for exchange of a clean Clamshell later. Both the clean Clamshells and keychains will be located next to the dirty Clamshell drop off bin.

When cashing out with your Clamshell, we ask that you open your Clamshell for the cashier so they may confirm your purchase.

The Clamshell program continues year after year. If a student wants to participate in the program the following year, they must either hold on to the keychain or clamshell. If either are lost the student will have to purchase a new clamshell at the beginning of the next year if they chose to do so.

If you lose your Clamshell or keychain you will have to purchase a new Clamshell.

It is at Dining’s discretion to judge if a Clamshell has been tampered with and will not be exchanged for a new Clamshell or key chain.

Unfortunately, due to National brand standards the Clamshells can not be used at either Blimpies or Panda Express. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
