Sustainability at NMCC
At ARAMARK we have a deep respect for—and commitment to— preserving our environment. We are connecting and developing environmental stewardship programs and policies—called Green Thread—that weave throughout our business operations. These include sustainable food and agriculture, earth-friendly procurement, energy conservation, waste management, and buildings and system design.
In conjunction with Northern Maine Community College, ARAMARK is committed to supporting sustainability initiatives on campus.
Examples include:
SUSTAINABLE FOOD
-
We are consistently sourcing local produce and ingredients to support local farmers and businesses whenever possible.
-
We purchase all of our frozen potato products from McCain's in Easton, ME.
-
We serve New England Coffee.
ENERGY AND WATER CONSERVATION
-
On sunny days, we leave the lights off and use natural light in the Dining Commons.
-
All of our cleaning supplies are the ECO Friendly APEX line from Ecolab. These products are less toxic to the environment; the packaging is smaller and recyclable.
WASTE MANAGEMENT
-
We recycle all bottles, cans and cardboard.
-
We use SCA brand 100% recycled napkins in all locations. These dispensers reduce napkin usage and related waste by 40%!
-
Our used vegetable oil is recycled into Bio Diesel by a local resident.
