Welcome to the Campus Dish Web Site for the Department of Physical Plant
I want to extend to everyone at Berklee College of Music a sincere welcome to the Department of Physical Plant. First of all, for some of you that are not familiar with what function we serve at the Berklee, let me try to explain.
Physical Plant, sometimes know as Facilities, is responsible for all maintenance issues to include, custodial, repairs, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). Our staff processes your requests or what we call work orders several different ways. The most common way work orders are processed through the web. You may however call extension 2359 and speak to our Service Response person, who will be happy to assist you.
It is our intention to assist in making your environment at Berklee a pleasant atmosphere to work in. In fact, when we are doing our job, you most likely will never even think about us! Conversely, when there is a problem, we want to be the first to know.
But PHP is so much more than cleaning and fixing. We are extremely proactive in our approach to all our mechanical systems so that we may prevent those calls that tell us something is not working. Our very competent HVAC staff spends Seventy-Five percent of their time dealing with PM or preventative maintenance. It is much easier to prevent a problem than to have to repair one. We have an active custodial project team that works at night cleaning carpets, waxing floors, and scrubbing bathrooms. This type of proactive approach to both the cleanliness and maintenance of mechanical systems are designed to keep you comfortable during your hectic work day. Again, if we can do a better job of any these issues, please do not hesitate to call.
This brings me to the most important part of PHP, the staff. I say this with the utmost sincerity that it is a pleasure to be associated with the finest staff that I have ever worked with in my twenty-seven years as a Director. From our service response to our custodial manager, supervisors and staff along with the project team and HVAC techs, you can be sure that Berklee is in the hands of an extremely dedicated group of professionals.
In the coming months we will be working on upgrading our web site in an attempt to keep you informed with all the exciting news of what we are doing. Some of those improvements will be to have bios and pictures of our staff, so you get to know their personal side. We will keep you informed of the tremendous strides we are making in the world of sustainability which includes recycling and energy management. We will also attempt to keep you up to date on all of Berkleeās acquisitions and transitions as they become known to us. Thank you again for taking time to visit our Web Site. I hope you visit often and tell us what you think.
