If I don't use all my meals in one week, do they carry over to the following week?

Depends on your meal plan. Our traditional residential meal plans, the 18, 8plus and the 12 plans, don't allow meals to carry over from week to week. We know that hardly anyone eats all their allotted meals each week and that is factored into the cost of these plans. The other meal plans we offer, the 110/110 as well as the Apartment Hall meal plans, Faculty and Staff meal plans and commuter meal plans are block plans and those meals, depending on the plan, are good for the quarter or year.

Can I "treat" a family member or a friend using two meals in a meal period?

Our commuter, Faculty and Staff, 8 Plus, 110/110 and both Apartment Hall meal plans allow more than one meal to be scanned in a meal period. The 18 and 12 meal plans do not have this option. But these two plans do allow for guest meals to be purchased for just $4.00/meal. Guest meals for all other meal plans may be purchased for $5.00 each.  Stop by the dining service office to arrange for this, or email us at dining@rose-hulman.edu.

Can I change my meal plan?

Students may change meal plans by contacting the Student Affairs Office in the lower level of the Hulman Union Building.   There are cut-off dates each quarter for meal plan changes so don't put off contacting them if this is something you really want to do.  Faculty and Staff who wish to change their meal plans should call the Dining Service Office at extension 8351 to discuss their planned changes.

What happens to my unused Declining Dollars at the end of the quarter?

DB that is included with your meal plan and is left on your card at the end of the quarter is "lost". Any DB that you add to your card separate from the DB that comes with your meal plan remains on your card from quarter to quarter for you to use by the end of the academic year. DB on the Faculty and Staff meal plans does carry over to the next year, however.

How do I keep track of my Declining Dollars?

After each transaction in which you use your Declining Dollars your available balance is on the screen for the cashier to tell you. If you would like to add additional Declining Dollars to your account you may do that in the Dining Services office. This additional amount is valid the entire academic year and we offer bonus dollars when you add additional money to your plan. You may also add DB to your account or check your DB balance here on the web page.  Simply set up an account for yourself under the "login" feature and you can begin to manage your DB on-line.

What should I do if I lose my card?

First, go to the dining services office and get a temporary meal pass. These passes are good for one week. Then, go to the Student Affairs office in the lower level of the Union and get a new card. There may be a charge for your new card. The first temporary meal pass each quarter is free. Subsequent temporary meal passes will cost you $5.00 each.

Why do I have to show my card each time I come for a meal?

We ask you to scan your card each time you come for a meal simply because not all students at Rose-Hulman have purchased a meal plan. If we allow students who have not purchased a meal plan to eat without charge we would not be able to offer the variety and quality of what we currently offer. To be fair to everyone, just because we know you're on a meal plan and that you know your card number, we do make everyone have his or her card available to be scanned.

What happens if I can't be here for lunch?

If you know you are going to miss lunch we do offer a sack lunch program. Ask the breakfast or lunch cashier for your order form, tell us what type of sandwiches you prefer, and we'll make a sack lunch special for you that's ready to be picked up when you need it. Once you've arranged for a sack lunch and it is prepared you will not be able to change your mind and eat in the cafeteria that meal. Since class schedules change each quarter you'll need to complete a new order form each quarter.

What happens if I can't be here for dinner?

We do offer meal exchanges in the Noble Roman's and Subway for just this problem. Click our button on meal exchanges on the main page for complete information.
