Where can students eat on campus?                       

Sorin Dining Hall is the all-you-care-to-eat location at Hamline.  All meals from meal plans must be eaten in Sorin.  There are four ala carte locations - HUB Snack Bar (Bush Student Center), Klas Café (Klas Center), Law School Food Cart (Hamline School of Law), and the Sorin Convenience Store.  All locations accept cash and Declining Balance.                     


What dining membership plans are available on campus?
If you live on campus, you are required to participate in a meal plan of your choice, ranging from 10 meals per week to 225 meals per semester.  If you will be commuting to campus, there are additional commuter plan options available or you could put money on your Hamline ID card and use it at any of the five dining locations.  Here are the advantages to belonging to a campus plan:  It guarantees all-you-care-to-eat meals and the flexibility of ala carte purchasing, No worries about carrying cash, Minutes from great food and comfortable locations, No sales tax on your meal purchases.

Do unused meals carry over the following week?
No, unless you are on a block plan.  For the best value, students need to use their meals each week.  We can help students decide on the right plan to fit schedules and eating habits.

Can meal plans be changed?
Yes.  During the first two weeks of the semester, students have the opportunity to change their Dining Membership.  Simply visit the Welcome Station in Sorin Hall and fill out a Meal Plan Change Form.  The deadline for students on campus during J-Term is January 12th; the deadline for CLA and Law students returning Spring Term is February 9th.

 What is Declining Balance?
Declining Balance is money that is useable through your Hamline ID card. There are two types of Declining Balance- Meal Plan Declining Balance or Piper Points.  Meal Plan D.B. is included with your dining plan. Piper Points are purchased separately through cash, check, credit card, or charged to your student account and will never expire. All Declining Balance can be used at any of the five dining locations.  Declining Balance that is included with a meal plan must be used by the end of each semester, with the exception of the 100 Block Commuter Plan (which expires at the end of the school year). 

 
How would a student sign up?

 It's easy.  If you are on campus, stop by the Welcome Center in Sorin Hall to sign up.  If you are not on campus, give us a call at 651-523-2453.
