As part of our sustainability efforts, Bemidji State University Campus Dining is implementing a new locally grown preferential purchasing system at Bemidji State to support local farmers and the local community.
BSU Campus Dining partnered with area growers to purchase produce that is incorporated into campus menus. Currently, there are 12 growers supplying produce to Bemidji State. When in season, apples, beans, peppers, corn and potatoes are just some of the locally grown foods that are found on the menu every day.
BSU Campus Dining places preference on food grown within the state of Minnesota, then the surrounding states of Wisconsin and Iowa and then the country, in that order. Conventional produce from around the world will still be served when an item is not available locally so students can continue to enjoy fresh, seasonal products.
