Information for Prospective Students & Parents |
Welcome to U.Va.!
As first year students, you are required by the University to have a meal plan. First-year students have the option of the Ultimate Access plan or the All Access 7 dining plan. Both plans provide unlimited access to the main dining halls (O-Hill, Fresh Food Company at Newcomb and Runk). These dining halls are all-you-care-to-eat faciliites. First-year students are mandated by University policy to have a meal plan without exception. If you do not choose a dining plan by July 5th, 2013, you will be defaulted to the All Access 7 plan. If you would lilke to change to the Ultimate Access plan, then you may complete a change request form on-line or in our offices on the ground floor of O-Hill dining. The dining plan is an annual plan, so you do not need to sign up again in the spring.
Meal swipes are mainly used at our residential dining rooms. You use one swipe to enter the dining room. Plus Dollars are a declining balance part of your account that are used at our many on-grounds retail locations. This amout is already built into the total cost per semester, so it is not an additional charge. Both meal swipes and Plus Dollars are accessed from your student ID card. Residential Meal Plans (Hereford, Brown & Language Houses) and Athletic Meal Plans are offered at the same levels for first years. The cost difference covers the special banquets the Resdential Colleges have and the athlete-focused menus offered at JPJ for varsity student athletes.
We also offer a Meal Exchange program where students can use one meal swipe in exchange for a pre-determined combo meal at certain retail locations. Ultimate Access plan holders can use up to 3 meal exchange swipes per day, All Access 7 holders may use 2. For more information, check out the Meal Exchange Program page.
We have options for those who are vegan, vegetarian, or keep kosher or need to dine gluten-free. Click here for more information on kosher dining!
