AFC Sushi Now Available in Dorrill Dining Hall lobby!  Bonus Dollars, Longwood Dollars, Cash or Credit Cards Accepted!

Sushi is the latest culinary option available to the Longwood University community and the public.

Sushi will be prepared and sold six days a week in a sushi bar in the Dorrill Dining Hall lobby, which opened Sept. 22. Customers may pick up ready-to-go packages or custom order by selecting their favorite ingredients. Sushi party trays are available for special events and can be ordered through Longwood Dining Services’ catering department (395-2629).

The sushi bar, which features a menu with more than 35 items and a sushi brand called Southern Tsunami, will be open Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sushi also will be available in three other campus locations managed by Longwood Dining Services: Java City located in the library, Lancer Café, and the Energy Zone. These operations are open later than the sushi bar, so sushi will be available after the sushi bar closes.

“Students love sushi and are excited about this,” said Grant Avent, director of Longwood Dining Services. “Last spring we invited AFC campus to give out free samples and conduct a survey to see if the Longwood students would like to see sushi as a dining option on their campus. The feedback was very positive.  Sushi is a healthy choice and something students have been requesting.. There is a misconception that “Sushi” means raw fish. Sushi actually is a specific way rice is prepared and rolled with a seaweed wrap and other ingredients including vegetables and fish which can be either smoked, cooked or raw, however all of the AFC seafood products are previously frozen for added safety.  Options also include vegetarian Sushi.”

As with other Longwood Dining Services retail operations, Bonus Dollars, Longwood Dollars, cash, and credit cards are accepted at the sushi bar.

The sushi bar opened with a ribbon-cutting followed by a free sushi sampling. “We had people lined up for hours at the sampling,” said Avent, who cut the ceremonial ribbon along with Longwood President Patricia Cormier, vice presidents Dr. Wayne McWee and Kathy Worster, and Cam Patterson, SGA president.
