Renovation Update

Week 1-The majority of week one was the removal of the ceiling in both The Underground and Schott Dining Hall. A long, tedious and dusty project. Drywall removal in the hallway between The Underground and Java City brought back memories to many JCU staff when the old "Rathskeller" sign was discovered. Other work in The Underground including resizing of the pillars and removal of the carpet.

Week 2- The removal of the ceiling was completed along with the removal of all equipment, counters and tile. Electric and duct work continued. A new architectual element in the walkway leading to the old entrance was the started. The railings leading into The Underground were removed and work began on the ramp entering into The Underground.

Week 3- Jackhammers dominated this week as the ramp was widened and the elevated area next to the catering office was removed. Wallpaper was removed, the floor was cut at the site of the International Grille in preparation of the new flooring.

Week 4- The removal of the ceiling was completed to prepare for the new sprinkler system. Duct work and electric work continued. The new architectual element in the walkway was completed. New windows in the dining room and kitchen were installed.

Weeks 5-6-Work continued on the duct work and new sprinkler system. New ventilation system for International Grill and Deli/Bakery was installed. Tile work began. New handicap accessible restroom was built. Millwork and counters delivered and installation began

Schott Dining News

John Carroll University's dining program is undergoing a significant change this summer. The renovations to Schott Dining Hall will create The Fresh Food Company. The Fresh Food Company is a proven dining program where food is prepared and finished in front of the customer. The heart of the program is flexibility and freshness. Ingredients are delivered fresh daily to the food stations and preparation of the food is performed in front of the customer. Renovations will be completed by mid August.
