All Students residing in a North Campus residence hall must be on a University meal plan (19, 14, 10, 225 Block or 175 Block) as a condition of occupancy. Students with medical issues may request a meal waiver. Residents of the South Campus Apartment Complex and the Village at WCU, as well as off-campus and commuting students, may purchase any meal plan offered or dine in the Lawrence Center Dining Hall at the casual meal rate. Additionally, all campus dining locations accept cash, credit cards (Visa & Mastercard), Flex dollars, and Ram bucks.

NEW To-Go Program
Students can now participate in a new program at Lawrence Dining Hall. Students can opt to take their meal to go . To participate, you simply just need to ask the cashier that you would like to take your meal to go. The procedure then is as follows:

  • You will provide your meal card to the cashier who will hold onto it until you leave the facility after selecting your items.
  • You will be given a number of to-go containers (entree, soup, beverage).
  • You will have approximately 10 minutes to select any items in the dining hall and fill your containers.
  • Upon leaving you will receive your  meal card from the cashier.

BAG LUNCHES
If you are a student teaching or have an internship, which prevents you from using your meal plan during lunch for dinner, you can make arrangements to pick up a "bag lunch" through the Office of Residence Life and Housing Services, located on the 2nd floor of Lawrence Center. Be sure to bring your Ram E Card with you when you come to the RLHS Office to make your arrangements.

MEAL PLAN WAIVER
Those students seeking a meal plan waiver for medical reasons must complete the following procedure:

  • Obtain a medical statement from your family physician explaining your reason for exemption from the University meal plans. The physician should answer the following question:
    1. Specifically, what is the nature of the student's medical problem?
    2. How long do you think the problem will persist?
    3. Should the student be released from the meal contract for both semesters?
    4. The physician should provide a seven-day menu of the necessary foods the student must eat while under your medical supervision
  • After receiving the above information, make an appointment with the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs.
  • The Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs may meet with the student before sending all the information to the Food Service Director to determine if your special diet can be accommodated. If unable to do so, the Food Service Director will notify the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs that the student is eligible to be released from the meal plan.

Q.  How do I pay for these meals?
A.  Having a dining membership allows you the flexibility of eating on campus without needing cash in your pocket.  There are three types of memberships, all customizable to fit your needs.

Q.  What exactly are Flex Dollars?
A.  These are supplemental dollars for you to use to purchase items on top of your meal plan.  Each meal plan has $150 Flex Dollars included (All Flex Plans have a minimum balance of $150) as part of your dining membership.  It is to be used at any of the on-campus dining locations.  You can add Flex Dollars in $25 increments to your account at any time by contacting the Bursar's office (610) 436-2552.  Flex will carry over from Fall to Spring semester AND year to year.

Q.  Can I use a meal at one of the retail locations?
A.  You bet!  It's called Meal Cash Credit (MCC) and it exists sot that you can get the full value of your meal plan while experiencing all your dining membership has to offer.  MCC is a $4.50 value that can be used in place of a standard meal and applied toward the purchase cost of items in our retail locations.  For example, if you are visiting our food court and your bill comes to $5.00, you can use a MCC (thus subtracting one meal from your allotted amount) and pay the remaining $0.50 from your Flex Dollars or other payment options.  You can use up to 2 MCC's (just like the rules for meals) for a purchase during each Meal Zone.  MCC cannot be applied toward the purchase of any items from our national brands (SUBWAY, Starbucks, Chick-Fil-A, Einstein Bros Bagels) or to purchase convenience store items.

Q.  What if I'm a commuter or live on South Campus?
A.  You may want to think about getting a dining membership too.  It makes grabbing a bite to eat on campus fast, simple, and convenient.  There are lots of benefits like having guaranteed all-you-care-to-eat meals or the flexibility of ala carte purchasing.  You never have to worry about needing to have cash on you.  You can enjoy the same privileges and great food as other dining members!

Q.  What if I still have questions?
A.  Feel free to contact us with any additional questions you may have regarding Dining Memberships or your dining options here at WCU
