What is the All Flex Plan?

Flex Dollars is a declining balance meal option initiated by either your deposit of funds through the Office of Housing & Residence Life in Clark Hall or by purchase of a meal plan that includes Flex Dollars. Your Flex account is accessed by using your IUP I-Card in any of our university dining facilities. In the HUB Rock II or Folger, you will be charged the total cost of items purchased.  Flex Dollars can be used to purchase meals for friends and family. Additionally, meals that exceed those allotted by your meal plan can be purchased with Flex Dollars as well as any charge in excess of the Meal Cash Credit. All meal plans except plan B (Any 14) include Flex Dollars but you can always open a Flex account (initial deposit of $50) whether you have a meal plan or not. You can add a minimum of $25 at any time at the Office of Housing & Residence Life in Suites on Maple West or on-line at www.iup.campusdish.com.. The cashier in any dining facility can provide you with your Flex Dollar account balance.

What does Meal Cash Credit mean?

Foster Dining Hall can best be described as a pay-one-price for all-you-care-to-eat food court. To allow students to use their meal plans in HUB Rock II and Folger Food Court, Dining Services developed a Meal Cash Credit for each meal. If you have a meal plan, you will receive a $4.65 Meal Cash Credit for each meal. If you use your meal plan at The HUB Rock II or Folger Food Court, you will receive up to this amount in value during that specific meal on most concepts. If your purchase exceeds the Meal Cash Credit for that meal, you will be required to cover the overage with cash or Flex Dollars. Where can I eat with my meal plan?
If you have a meal plan, you may eat in Foster Dining Hall or use your Meal Cash Credit in The HUB Rock II or Folger Food Court.

Where can I use Flex Dollars?

Flex Dollars can be used at any of our dining facilities. The program cannot be used for vending machines, for copiers in the library, in washers and dryers, or at off-campus locations.

If I live in a residence hall, why am I required to have a meal plan?

Residence hall students are required to have meal plans for the following reasons:

1) Residence halls do not have cooking facilities in student rooms. The meal plan requirement ensures that students have food available to them daily. Since our menus contain healthy food options, the meal plans also ensure that students have proper nutrition available to them.
2) If students were permitted to cook in our residence halls, rodent and insect infestations would create health hazards as well as an increase in extermination costs.
3) Our residence halls do not have adequate facilities for cleaning dishware and utensils. If cooking were permitted, serious plumbing and cleanliness problems would result from students attempting to clean dishes and utensils in bathroom sinks.
4) To provide a diverse and reasonably priced dining program, a solid financial base is required. Residence hall students provide that base. With approximately four thousand contracts, IUP has been able to provide the most comprehensive dining program in the State System of Higher Education. The cost to the student is one of the lowest in the State System of Higher Education. Without this financial base, the program would be much more costly and much less comprehensive.
5) Time management is extremely important to students. With a meal plan, students save a great amount of time, since they do not have to travel far nor spend time on food preparation and cleanup.

Do the unused meals from my meal plan carry over from week to week or semester to semester?

The only meal plan that allows carryover from semester to semester is Flex Dollars. With Flex Dollars, any balance at the end of the fall semester will carry over to the spring semester. Any balance remaining at the end of the spring semester is forfeited. The dining service week runs from brunch on Sunday through dinner on Saturday. The semester block plans, C/F, K/F and E/F are based on meals per semester. In effect, the balance carries over from week to week. However, weekly plans specify the number of meals available to the student each week. The student decides how many of these meals she or he eats. Therefore, meals not eaten do not carry over from week to week.

Does the balance in my Flex Dollars account carry over from one semester
to the next?

The balance in your Flex account carries over from the fall semester to the spring
semester. However, at the end of the spring semester, the dining contract is concluded and any remaining Flex dollar balance is forfeited. There is no Flex Dollar program in the summer.

What options are there for vegetarians?

All dining locations provide vegetarian entrees at every meal, from vegetarian hoagies or pizza to vegetarian casseroles or burgers.  Foster offers a wok station and an all-you-can-eat salad bar with an extensive variety of vegetables and dressings, including “lite” dressings and vegetarian pasta sauces. Check
the daily menus for additional choices! I need to watch my diet. What can the
dining service do for me? Nutritional information, including fat grams, caloric content, sodium content, and cholesterol level is provided for all menu items in
each dining facility and on the web at
www.iup.campusdish.com. In addition, each dining location provides low-fat, low-calorie entrees or luncheon meats, salads, yogurt, and other healthy choices.
For students who need to follow specific diets for health reasons, individually prepared meals can be provided. A dietician is available for consultation. Please email coleman-michelle@aramark.com to make an appointment

Can I allow someone else to use my Meal Plan?

No one else may use your meal plan. The meal plan agreement specifies that the meals provided are for the contract holder only. Read the meal plan agreement on-line: www.iup.campusdish.com
.

Can I bring a family member or friend who has no meal plan into the dining facilities?

Yes. Each of our Meal Plans includes five free Guest Passes to be used for Breakfast, Brunch, Lunch or Dinner at Foster Dining Hall. As always you may also use your Flex to treat a friend any time.

Do I need to buy a meal plan to have Flex Dollars?

You can open an All Flex account with or without a meal plan. In fact, if you
buy Plan B (the Any 14), an All Flex account plan can still be purchased in
addition to your meal plan. Remember that students who live on campus are required to have a meal plan and are not eligible for Flex only.

How can I determine the balance in my Flex Account or the number of meals I have left on my meal plan?

Any dining hall cashier can provide your Flex balance. If you prefer, you can request information on your balance at the meal card office located in the lobby of Foster Dining Hall.

Can I change my meal plan?

Each semester, you have an opportunity to change your meal plan by completing a meal plan change form or by sending a written request to the Office of Housing and Residence Life. Requests must be on file no later than 4 p.m. on the first Friday after classes begin for that semester. After that time, you cannot change your meal plan. REQUESTS SENT TO ANY OTHER OFFICE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Does the dining service hire students? How can I find out about a job?

The dining service hires more than 450 students each semester to work in the various dining facilities. For more information about available positions or to apply on-line, visit our website at www.iup.campusdish.com
. Job possibilities include cashier or checker, cleaning tables/ floors, food preparation/serving, cleaning dishes, general labor, and student manager. Starting salary is $7.25/hour.
