Top 10 Reasons to Eat on Campus...

10. Conserve energy and water OR Conserve Energy and Cut Greenhouse gas emissions

We have Implementing a training program for all front line staff;  Also, onsite there is regular review / training with staff to help reduce wasteful practices (e.g. closing vestibule doors; reporting leaky faucets; equipment scheduling and maintenance; thawing items previous day to avoid running under warm water etc.; we preferentially purchase Energy Star certified kitchen equipment when available and/or equipment that is designed to reduce energy and water usage.

9. Green cleaning

ARAMARK has been a long-term partner with Eco Lab, a supplier of cleaning products.  We are proud to be a supporter and user of their newest program and product line, EcoLogic, which supports environmentally responsible cleaning.  The EcoLogic Product Line provides “green” product alternatives in ware washing, laundry, and housekeeping applications.  The program promotes a healthier and cleaner environment by utilizing products that help prevent toxic pollution and waste, conserve resources and habitats and minimize global warming and ozone depletion.  A number of these products have been awarded Green Seal certification.   For many of the cleaning products we use, we have transitioned to their greener alternatives and we continue to expand this program.

8. Support local farmers

ARAMARK partners with our Local Produce Suppliers from coast to coast to help us identify and preferentially order local produce when available.  We continue to expand and develop new programs for sourcing foods that are grown/raised/processed locally, as well as those food items that are also grown/raised/ processed in a responsible sustainable manner.  We are also expanding programs for natural and organic food sourcing.
Here are just some of the Suppliers/products we purchase locally…
- Potatoes (and other seasonal produce)

7. Trained culinary staff

We are proud to have trained culinary staff preparing meals on campus.  All our staff are trained on an ongoing basis to prepare the best possible meal options for all the students on campus.

6.  Recycling & Composting

Across our food service locations, we have comprehensive recycling programs that help divert waste including aluminum, plastic, glass, cardboard and cooking oil for new uses.  Please help us divert as much waste from landfill as possible by using the appropriate bins.

5. Biodegradable & recyclable packaging

Although we encourage students to dine in using reusable service ware whenever available, when take out is a must, biodegradable packaging is an environmentally preferred alternative.  In support of a greener packaging program, we are introducing biodegradable service ware into our operations.  Made from annually renewable natural resources including sugar cane, wild reed, bamboo and corn, this line of take out ware can be composted, uses less energy and water to produce, and will biodegrade faster than their more persistent counter parts.  Now you can feel great about what you eat and what you eat it on!

We are pleased to be offering Biodegradable Service ware at Ryan Hall

4. Be part of the school community

By spending time on campus and taking the time to learn about all the programs you can participate in you can help build a stronger school community.  Food services participate in a number of community events throughout the year and we want you to join in the fun and help build an even stronger school community.

3. Nutritionally analyzed menus

As part of our mission to offer a variety of food choices and cycle menus for our food court locations, we also nutritionally analyze our menus.  If you would like to see the nutritional values of our menu items, they can be viewed under the menu section of this website.

2. Hang out with your friends

What better reason to eat on campus then friends.  Spending time with your fellow classmates and friends is always a great way to eat your meals.  Take time to study, work on group assignments or make new friends.

1. You don’t have to do dishes!

You can save time – you don’t have to stand over the sink to do dishes
You can save water – you don’t have to use excess water for dishes (we do our dishes in bulk saving water compared to each individual person doing there own dishes.)
